In a new pilot program, the IRS will send out “soft notices” to taxpayers whose tax return does not match the informational returns the IRS has on file. The “soft notices” do not require the taxpayer to pay additional tax or respond to the IRS. The notices are an educational tool and encourage self-correction and compliance.
